True ToneвЂ™s suitability depends on the kind of pro user you are. ItвЂ™s only when you turn it off in the middle of writing emails, working on a report, or even simply reading web pages that you realise how effective it is вЂ“ and youвЂ™ll want to turn it on again quick sharp. With over a yearвЂ™s experience of True Tone on iPad Pro, and slightly less on iPhone X, weвЂ™re sold on True ToneвЂ™s benefits for non-creative tasks.

Though thereвЂ™s a key combo (Option and the Touch BarвЂ™s screen brightness key) takes you there, we wouldвЂ™ve liked a single key press to toggle the effect at any time. You have to go into the Displays preferences pane. Whereas the latter warms the color temperature late at night through to early morning, True Tone works all day long and goes further rather than shifting the temperature to a fixed setting, it uses a sensor to read ambient lighting and adjusts the colors on the screen accordingly for your comfort.ДЄpple provides just one way to toggle True Tone. ThereвЂ™s one new feature to the display: True Tone, previously available on iPhone X and most iPad Pros, this feature is akin to an enhanced version of the Night Shift setting. Some rivals exceeded that even before last yearвЂ™s models came along, so the 13-inch MacBook Pro loses out on sharpness, but the P3 wide color gamut of AppleвЂ™s panel is an attractive proposition for photographic and design work. The 13.3-inch panel continues to pack 2560x1600 pixels. As with 2017вЂ™s MacBook Pro, thereвЂ™s no change to the Retina displayвЂ™s resolution. WeвЂ™d love to have one but wouldnвЂ™t necessarily recommend buying one, unless space really is a premium.On the outside, the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2018 appears almost identical to last year's model, even down to the similar size and weight.

But with no port extension, and with you having to plug in your laptopвЂ™s power cord separately, we donвЂ™t feel it quite justifies its ВЈ60 price. It saves space, provides instant connection to your desktop peripherals and looks quite nice too. We like the idea of the Henge Dock 13-inch MacBook Air dock. Combined with the lack of any actual expansion of the ports already existing on the laptop and it really comes down to this being a space saving purchase only, all be it one that looks fairly tidy. However, there isnвЂ™t quite enough quality on show here to justify the fairly steep price вЂ“ the white plastic has a couple of sections where you can just make out the seams from the mould. The base is also wide and sturdy so it holds your laptop securely, and thanks to thick rubber feet it wonвЂ™t slide around either.

The glossy white finish looks excellent while the rubber lining of the docking slot is nice and thick. The build quality is good, if not quite very good. This does rather destory this particular version of the Henge docksвЂ™ appeal, as it only removes some of the labour of docking your laptop, not all of it. Instead you must attach the power cable to the other side of the laptop вЂ“ the one thatвЂ™s stood 13-inches into the air. However, this particular MacBook Air version of the dock вЂ“ because the power socket for Macbook Airs is on the opposite side to the DisplayPort вЂ“ doesnвЂ™t include a socket for the power adapter. These connections are then repeated out the back of the dock. In this case weвЂ™ve got a USB 3.0 plug and a mini DisplayPort plug. At the bottom of said slot are plugs that marry up with the ports on that side of the laptop. The glossy white plastic base incorporates a rubber lined slot into which the laptop slides. The Henge dock design really couldnвЂ™t be simpler. The Henge Docks range are specially made for docking your MacBooks and give you instant connection to all your peripherals and, because they dock vertically, they save space too.ДЄvailable for most new and existing MacBooks (bar the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display), weвЂ™re looking at the 13-inch Macbook Air version. Laptops are fast replacing desktop PCs throughout both homes and businesses but when at a desk thereвЂ™s still no substitute for a proper keyboard, mouse, monitor and set of speakers, which is where laptop docks come in.
